Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

At the beginning of 2024, the Executive Committee of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) unanimously accepted the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld of Trier University of Applied Sciences as a member.

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)was founded in 2012 under the patronage of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The SDSN supports practical solutions from academia, civil society and business to achieve sustainable development at local, regional, national and global levels. The SDSN works in thematic groups on core issues of sustainable development, such as the responsible use of resources, agriculture, climate and energy, sustainable urban development and health for all. Over 1,800 institutions from science and practice and from more than 145 countries are currently pooling their expertise to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In the German section (SDSN Germany), 38 leading German sustainability institutions are involved and support strategy processes such as the updating of the German Sustainability Strategy.

Membership is only possible upon application for organizations that have already proven their sound expertise in the field of sustainable development. With its membership, the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld joins the ranks of already renowned member organizations in Germany, such as the German Development Institute (DIE), the German Network for Business Ethics (DNWE), the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), the Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
