The guidelines for applied research at the UCB require a thematic orientation towards questions of the material cycle and sustainable development. In addition, great importance is attached to networking research and teaching by involving students in research projects. The research area at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld is generously dimensioned and amounts to about 4000 m².
Although the Environmental Campus has only existed since 1996, a number of institutes and competence centres have already been established in this short time in order to bundle scientific activities and ensure a better public image. These institutions, some of which are internationally known beyond the region, are linked on the following pages.
Under the umbrella of these institutions, a considerable amount of third-party funds is raised from research projects and industrial projects.
The challenging tasks are handled by a considerable number of project staff with mainly temporary contracts.
