About. Oliver Braun is Professor of Quantitative Business and Management at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld. He also teaches regularly in the UC San Diego Summer Session as a Visiting Professor.  He earned a Diploma (M.Sc.) in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Business and Management from Saarland University, and later received the Habilitation (Venia Legendi) from the Faculty of Law and Economics. His research focuses on scheduling theory, online algorithms, algorithmic decision-making, and computational methods for three-dimensional integrated circuit layout and design. 

Publications. His work appears in top-tier venues in algorithms and operations research, including SIAM Journal on Computing, Journal of Scheduling, OR Spectrum, and the International Journal of Production Research, alongside a range of peer-reviewed conference and journal publications in scheduling theory and algorithmic decision-making.  A complete list of publications is available here. 

Projects. Current work includes the DFG project “New Approaches to Determine Lower and Upper Bounds on Competitive Ratios in Online Scheduling” (Project No. 548384686), conducted in collaboration with Fan Chung (University of California, San Diego). A previous DFG project, “Bicriteria Scheduling on Parallel Processors” (Project No. 137031171), was carried out together with Fan Chung and Ronald L. Graham (University of California, San Diego). Earlier projects include “Secure Payment Transactions over the Internet” (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and the EU-INTAS project “Approaches to Discrete Optimization Problems in Manufacturing and Computer Systems,” conducted in cooperation with Günter Schmidt (Saarland University) and Yuri N. Sotskov (Minsk University). He is also developing a new research line on computational methods for three-dimensional integrated circuit layout and design, in cooperation with CK Cheng from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego.
