Learn and Work with the environment
You are studying engineering sciences, ecology or environmental science and want to acquire key qualifications in environmental friendly technologies? Take part in an intensive course and get new experiences. Study at a university in the heart of Europe, located next to Germany´s youngest National Park. Live together with international students. Work with experts in the field of environmental technology at the Environmental-Campus Birkenfeld and gain experience in environmental related technologies and sciences acquired by lab work and teamwork in interdisciplinary projects.
Fundamentals of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate
Students will be introduced to the principles of biodiversity, ecosystems, environmental systems, climatology and climate change. This course introduces ecology at the level of individuals, populations and communities. Furthermore you get a deeper understanding of climate change impacts and tools to devise effective and cost-effective strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation on a global, sectoral and local scale. Learn about the environmental fundamentals and the consequences of human intervention.
This course introduces the interdisciplinary concept of sustainable engineering. Issues treated include sustainable energy use, energy concepts and green production.
Environmental Data, Networks and Geographic information systems
Students learn about environmental data systems, sensor - aided networks and evaluation of environmental data and basics in geo-information systems. Learn how to evaluate environmental data.
Environmental Science Project
Students develop solutions of complex problems in cooperation with other students. Learn to organize and work in multiple groups, strengthen the rhetoric and writing skills while presenting the results.

German Language and Culture
Studying in a foreign country is both a chance and a challenge. The course "German Language and Culture” provides extended knowledge und deeper understanding of German history, society and mentality and thus gives a better insight into German language and culture.

Study Conditions, Accommodation and Fees
Participants in the program will live and study on our modern campus with over 2,700 other students. All student apartments are reasonably priced. They come fully equipped and provide high-speed internet access as well as being connected to our university intranet.
The university does not charge a tuition fee for the Study Semester. Students will have to pay a 500 Euros administration fee per semester that also covers excursion costs and social events. Additionally a general admissions fee about 200 Euros per semester that also allows free rail travel in the region.
Students will enjoy the benefits of our “buddy” concept, with German students providing individual help in getting orientated and integrated in campus life.
