Employees have the option to miss work for up to 10 days if they urgently need to organise nursing care for close relatives. The so called nursing care support benefit is intended to offer support for such cases. You can apply for it at the nursing care insurance of your relative. Employees are eligible to this claim, independent of the size of their company or institution. An urgent need to organise care does not cover the care of a passing illness. To be able to make use of the 10 days leave and the nursing support benefit, the relative in question must be in need of care according to §§ 14 and 15 of the social law book XI. The mere possibility of a need of care according to the legal definition is not enough. Facts, that will make a need for care very probable, must be presented.
