Important information on the previous 1+4 regulation

The 1+4 regulation that previously existed in examination regulations will no longer be implemented.

Suspension of the 1+4 regulation

We are currently receiving a number of questions about the so-called 1+4 rule, which is still contained in some examination regulations and subject examination regulations.

For clear explanation:

This regulation has been suspended since the summer semester 2020 by resolutions of the examination boards.

Even after the end of the special corona regulations, it was again decided to continue to suspend this regulation and not to apply it when counting attempts.

This means that this regulation no longer applies and there is no longer a fixed date by which you must have taken the first attempt at an examination at the latest.

This regulation is no longer included in some new subject examination regulations and will gradually be removed in new versions of the subject examination regulations.

However, we advise you not to put off exams for too long so that you don't end up with a huge amount of exams.
If you are struggling with exam anxiety, for example, you are welcome to contact the Psychosocial Counseling Center of the Studierendenwerk free of charge https://www.studiwerk.de/cms/psychosoziale_beratung-1001.html
You can find further information on advisory services here https://www.umwelt-campus.de/beratungskompass-ucb/serviceeinrichtungen-weitere-beratungen-und-informationen

Since the winter semester 2023/2024, the regulation on repeat examinations is valid again: Students who have failed an examination must retake it no later than the semester after the next semester after failing.
If such a repeat examination is missed, this attempt will be graded as "failed" (exception: illness and timely submission of a certificate).

If you have any questions please ask the examination office.
