WLAN - eduroam

On the entire campus, mobile access is possible via wireless local area network (WLAN).

By participating in eduroam (Education Roaming), employees and students of participating universities and organisations are able to establish a WLAN connection at the locations of all participating organisations. For guest lectures, semesters abroad, business trips and the stay at a foreign university, you do not have to apply for guest access first, but can log in directly with your known login data. In the meantime, almost all European countries are represented at eduroam and more and more universities in the respective countries are joining their research networks. A map showing all participating locations can be found at www.eduroam.de and www.eduroam.org.

Instruction

If you do not have an existing network connection, the WLAN setup-eduroam is available for further configuration. This is only used to call up the instructions and download the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (eduroam CAT for short).

The eduroam CAT can be accessed via the following link https://cat.eduroam.org. After selecting Trier University of Applied Sciences as the location and then selecting the computer center in Birkenfeld, your operating system is automatically recognized and you can follow the further instructions. During installation, enter the user name in the following format: <login name>@umwelt-campus.de, with the corresponding password. This combination does not necessarily have to correspond to your e-mail address.

For easier setup, we have linked the installers directly below:

Windows

IMPORTANT: During installation, enter the user name in the following format: <login name>@umwelt-campus.de, with the corresponding password. This combination does not necessarily have to correspond to your e-mail address.

iOS and macOS

For Apple devices, you only need the following configuration file:

IMPORTANT: During installation, enter the user name in the following format: <login name>@umwelt-campus.de, with the corresponding password. This combination does not necessarily have to correspond to your e-mail address.

Android

Unsing Android you need the official eduroam CAT app regardless of the version. It is available under the following links and must be downloaded first:

The configuration file can then be obtained here:

IMPORTANT: During installation, enter the user name in the following format: <login name>@umwelt-campus.de, with the corresponding password. This combination does not necessarily have to correspond to your e-mail address.

Unix

The installation program is a Python script. It will try to install eduroam in the NetworkManager. If the system is not managed by NetworkManager or the version is too old, a wpa_supplicant configuration file will be created instead. The installation program creates a .cat_installer subdirectory in your personal folder and copies the server certificates there. To connect to the network you need a user account of your organization. Visit their help pages to find out how to get such an account. Most likely you already have such an account.

IMPORTANT: During installation, enter the user name in the following format: <login name>@umwelt-campus.de, with the corresponding password. This combination does not necessarily have to correspond to your e-mail address.
