Internet access in the dormitories

IMPORTANT: All dormitories are now using the new technology

As of March 11, 2026, all dormitories have been migrated to the new technology. As part of this process, the required access method has changed from static IP addresses to automatic IP assignment (DHCP). From this point forward, existing devices will no longer connect to the internet, and manual adjustment of the settings will be required.

Instructions

A DHCP server is activated at each new connection, and each apartment has 13 IP addresses at its disposal.

Access via network cable
You can simply connect a device via network cable and receive an IP address from our router, which you can use to access the Internet. If you need more than one connection, you can use an inexpensive network switch to increase the number of ports in your apartment up to a maximum of 13 devices. If you need more simultaneous devices, you will need to use your own router, which can be easily integrated into the new network thanks to DHCP.

Access via WLAN
Alternatively, you can connect a WLAN access point or a WLAN router to integrate wireless devices. Thanks to DHCP, modern devices work directly “out-of-the-box” without the need for further settings.

Configuration of existing TP-Link devices

MPORTANT: If you have not changed the Wi-Fi name (SSID) or Wi-Fi password of your device, you can simply reset your router to factory settings (press and hold the reset button for at least 10 seconds). After restarting, the router should automatically work with the new connection and you will not need to configure anything else.

  1. Connect your PC/notebook to the router you are currently using in the dormitory either with a network cable or via Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the router's configuration interface in a web browser according to the device's instructions (this can usually be accessed at the following IP address: 192.168.0.1).
  3. Log in there with the login information from the device's instructions.
  4. Find and open the menu item Internet access or WAN access.
  5. There, change the IP settings from static to dynamic or DHCP.
  6. The device should now automatically receive an IP address from us. No further settings are required.

Please note that the configuration and menu structure may vary significantly depending on the device. Therefore, we cannot provide instructions for all devices. If you have any problems, please visit our ServicePoint with your router and all necessary cables.

Configuration of existing Ethernet devices
  1. Open the IP settings on your device and reset all manual settings back to DHCP or automatic.
