EduVPN replaces FortiClient with immediate effect. VPN access via FortiClient is only possible until the deadline 05.06.2023.

To access the resources or services of Trier University from home or on the road, you need a VPN connection.

EduVPN uses a login based on certificates instead of entering a login name and password. When a new device logs in for the first time, a certificate is generated for exactly this device after a one-time login via Shibboleth. This certificate is valid for 30 days. During this period, you can activate and deactivate the VPN connection as you wish without entering your user ID. After this time, you will need to log in again to renew the certificate (for another 30 days). To do this, simply follow the instructions in your EduVPN app.

Instructions

Connect a new device via EduVPN

To connect a new device via VPN for the first time, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the portal https://eduvpn.hochschule-trier.de with the standard browser of your operating system.
  2. If you are not yet logged in via Shibboleth, log in now with your user ID.
  3. Select the app that matches your operating system and install it.
  4. Start the EduVPN app and enter Trier in the search field.
  5. Under Institute Access, select Hochschule Trier.
  6. The EduVPN portal opens again in your browser where you have to approve the login once more.
  7. You are now successfully connected.

Your registration (generated certificate) is valid for 30 days. During this period, you can log in to the VPN with the EduVPN app of this end device without entering the user ID. After this time, you will need to log in again to renew the certificate (for another 30 days). To do this, simply follow the instructions in the eduVPN app.

Lock device (in case of loss)

If you want to revoke the valid certificate of a device (for example, if you have lost it), proceed as follows:

  1. Open the portal https://eduvpn.hochschule-trier.de.
  2. If you are not yet logged in via Shibboleth, log in with your user ID.
  3. Switch to the Benutzerkonto tab.
  4. Under Autorisierte Anwendungen you can see all your connected devices and can revoke their access by clicking on Widerrufen.
